  • 'Animal Man' visit to West Lodge

    Tue 29 Mar 2022

On Tuesday, Ranger Stu, aka 'Animal Man', came to West Lodge with his menagerie of wild animals to visit the children in Reception and Kaleidoscope.

In Reception the children got up close to an owl, Chilean rose tarantula, tortoise, bearded dragon, armadillo and a tenrec, an animal from Madagascar that looks like a hedgehog but is related to elephants. Afterwards the children wrote thank you notes to Stu for giving them such an amazing experience and teaching them interesting facts about animals.

All the children from Kaleidoscope had the opportunity to learn and get close to different types of animals too. The children were very brave handling tarantulas, stroking snakes and ‘corralling’ armadillos.  They even handled a tenrec. It was a great, fun-filled, learning experience.

  • Indoor Athletics

    Tue 22 Mar 2022

On Tuesday, West Lodge's Year 5 and 6 Indoor Athletics Team were one of 12 finalists from all schools in London at the London Youth Games. The team had been training immensely hard, with dedicated training sessions every break time and lunch time and also some before and after school sessions. The highest any Harrow team had reached previously (which was West Lodge) was 10th place, so that was the target to beat. On the day, the quality was extremely high, with not only some of the best athletes in London in attendance, but some of the best in the UK. Every one of the 30 children selected were focused and tried desperately hard to achieve their own personal targets. When the event was over, there was a very tense wait to find out that we had finished as the 4th best school out of all schools in London! It was another amazing achievement for the children and staff of West Lodge, who have recorded another personal best for the school and the borough!

Some of our outstanding scores include:

    • 1st place in girls vertical jump and boys javelin
    • 2nd place in girls over & under relay
    • 3rd place in girls obstacle relay, boys over & under relay, boys speed bounce, boys vertical and girls javelin
  • Visit from Author, Beth Woolvin

    Wed 09 Mar 2022

All years, from Reception through to Year 6, really enjoyed the Zoom visits from author, Beth Woolvin. Year 2 focused on Beth's debut book, Little Red, and the session included an introduction, book reading and a show and tell of her rough and final artworks.  The children we treated to a draw-a long where they learnt how to draw Little Red.  There was a Q & A session at the end.

  • Girls' Football Team

    Tue 01 Mar 2022

The girls' football team attended a tournament hosted by Watford FC at the training ground of Watford FC. They had a really enjoyable day, that not only involved playing football, but they were also lucky enough to meet the captain and a star player for Watford FC Women's team. All the girls performed excellently and represented West Lodge with great skill, team-work, effort and respect.
