Art and Design
At West Lodge we understand the importance of stimulating children’s creativity and imagination alongside the development of a range of art, craft and design skills. We believe that every child has the right to express themselves through Art and will ensure that all children have access to a challenging and relevant Art curriculum as well as encouraging individual interests and talents through a variety of extra- curricular experiences.
Through our process based approach to learning, we aim to inspire pupils to experiment with a range of different media whilst taking risks and evaluating their creative processes. We believe that these experiences will have a positive effect on children’s self-esteem and well- being and will therefore enrich their lives.
Children at West Lodge will be exposed to a range of artists, craftspeople and designers from different times, places and cultures as well as from the local environment. Through the study of these artists, we hope that children will develop a visual literacy as well as an understanding and appreciation of Art, Craft and Design and its place in society.
