West Lodge

Primary School

James Went

I have worked at West Lodge since 2010. Having lived most of my life within close proximity to the school, I was aware of its reputation and was very excited to be offered a job here. I have lived in Northwood now for seven years and my two boys attend a primary school in Northwood. During my time at the school, I have been YGL in years 4, 5 and 6 and have lead PE, Music and The Creative Arts.

Prior to working here at West Lodge, I worked at a one form entry school in Hemel Hempstead. I was the Year 6 teacher, Lead of KS2 and led English, PE and Music. One of my favourite experiences of working in teaching is the process of Mentoring. Having mentored student teachers as well as NQTs, it is clear that we can learn so much from each other, whatever our standing in the industry.

Teaching has always been close to my heart as my mother was a teacher for 42 years and my wife is also in the profession. My reason for wanting to enter the teaching profession myself was that I truly wanted to make ‘a difference’. Teaching is a very special calling, days are never the same or perhaps quite what you expected, every child matters and the consistency that teachers can provide children is hugely important to their development in so many ways. As educators, we have such an important role to play in every child’s education and that role is one I thoroughly enjoy!
